The Mater Cupcake recipe is fun and would look great along with the Lightning McQueen Cupcake recipe or with the Mater Oil Slick Cocktail recipe.

Cars 3 Mater Cupcake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 C oil
  • 1 C water
  • measurements for the eggs, oil and water will change based on which brand of cake mix you purchase
  • Cupcake liners
  • Cupcake pan
  • 1 C mini marshmallows
  • 24 mini round pretzels
  • 1 bag of chocolate melting wafers
  • 1/4 C white chocolate melting wafers
  • 2 small ziplock bags
  • 1 container of mini Keebler stripped cookies
  • Double boilers
  • Baking sheet lined with wax paper

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1 C unsalted sweet cream butter softened
  • 1 C cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 C powder sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3-5 TBSP heavy whipping cream
  • Medium star tip and pastry bag

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 and line cupcake pan with the liners
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, oil, and water and mix until combined 
  3. Using a medium ice cream scoop, scoop the batter into the cupcake liners and fill about 3/4 of the way full
  4. Bake in the oven for about 21 minutes
  5. Pull out and place on the side to cool

Prep for Mater:

  1. Add water into the bottom pot of the double boiler
  2. Add the milk chocolate wafers into the top pot and stir until melted
  3. Dip a few of the pretzels into the chocolate and coat the pretzels
  4. Place onto the baking sheet
  5. Scoop the rest of the milk chocolate into 1 of the ziplock bags
  6. Add the white chocolate into the top pot of the double boilers
  7. Mix until melted and scoop into the other ziplock bag, cut a tiny part of the corner off
  8. Using the baking sheet, pipe a small rectangle for mater's eyes using the milk chocolate
  9. Let cool for 10 minutes.
  10. Using the white chocolate cut a tiny part of the corner and pipe a smaller rectangle into the milk chocolate rectangle.
  11. Using the milk chocolate, pipe two dots for the pupils.
  12. Let cool for 30 minutes in the fridge.

Directions:

  1. Using a standing mixer, combine all ingredients into the bowl and mix on medium speed.
  2. If your frosting starts looking like powdery rocks, add another tablespoon of heavy whipping cream.
  3. Mix until you see creamy stiffed peaks.
  4. Scoop frosting into a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Pipe frosting onto the cupcakes.

Directions for decorating

  1. Take 4 of the chocolate dipped pretzels and place two on each side of the frosting for "tires".
  2. Place a mini stripped cookie onto the middle part of the frosting, flat down, to create his "nose".
  3. Cut a mini marshmallow in half and mold to make mater's teeth.
  4. Take a chocolate rectangle and place onto the top of the frosting.
  5. Enjoy!
