Mini Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes Recipe


  • Mini ice cream cones.
  • Cake mix of your choice.
  • Container of vanilla frosting.
  • Container of chocolate frosting.
  • Food coloring. I was going for the red white & blue theme.
  • Maraschino cherries with stems. optional
  • Red white & blue sprinkles or your choice of colors.


  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Setup mini ice cream cones on a cookie sheet. (I couldn't use the ice cream cone cupcake rack because these cones are too small.)
  3. Prepare cake mix according to directions.
  4. Fill mini ice cream cones a little of 1/2 full. (almost to 3/4 but not quite!)
  5. Bake approximately 15 minutes but keep an eye on them because all ovens bake differently.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool.
  7. Separate vanilla frosting into 3 bowls leaving 1 white.
  8. Add red food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to the other.
  9. Scoop each color into a plastic baggie (or pastry bag) and snip off the tip.
  10. Pipe onto cupcakes once cooled to make it look like ice cream. You can use a fancy tip but you really don't need to.
  11. Repeat with chocolate frosting.
  12. Add sprinkles and a cherry on top.
  13. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  14. Enjoy!
