Haystacks recipe that is perfect for July 4th.

Patriotic Haystacks Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chow mein noodles
  • 1 cup cocktail peanuts
  • 12 oz bag Wilton bright white candy melts
  • 1/4 cup Wilton red candy melts
  • 1/4 cup Wilton royal blue candy melts
  • Patriotic nonpareils jimmies and star sprinkles
  • Cupcake Flag Toppers

Instructions

  1. Line a large cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Add the chow mein noodles and cocktail peanuts to a large mixing bowl. Gently toss to mix and set aside.
  3. In a double boiler (or Wilton candy warmer), melt the white candy melts over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and cool for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Pour the melted white chocolate on top of the peanuts and chow mein noodles and gently toss to coat.
  5. Transfer the mixture onto the lined cookie sheet , in the shape of "haystacks."
  6. Sprinkle each haystack with the red, white and blue nonpareils and jimmies.
  7. In a small microwave bowl, microwave the red candy melts for 45 seconds. Stir until melted. Drizzle the melted red chocolate on top of half of the haystacks. Sprinkle with red white and blue star-shaped sprinkles.
  8. Microwave the blue candy melts for 45 seconds. Stir until melted. Drizzle on top of the remaining haystacks. Sprinkle with patriotic star shaped sprinkles.
  9. Chill for 20 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden.
  10. ENJOY!!
  11. Optional - before serving, place a cupcake flag topper into each haystack.
  12. You can store the haystacks in a single layer in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
