Organic Valley GHEE Clarified Butter Review!
Most people don’t know what Clarified Butter is. And the only reason I know what it is is because when I worked at the Original Pancake House, they used to make their Dutch Babies, Apple pancakes and oven baked omelettes.
How is it different than regular butter? Well Organic Valley GHEE Clarified Butter actually a tad different than regular clarified butter. I know I’m probably confusing you but stay with me on this one. Butter is butter. If you fry it too long it will turn brown. No one likes eggs or pancakes or really anything fried in brown butter. At least I know we don’t!
When you first start frying butter it gets all foamy which is the water evaporating. Then it starts separating which is yellow fat (the good stuff) and the milk solids which you want to get rid of. Once you skim the solids off the top you are left with the liquid which needs to be strained through a cheese cloth or something similar.
With GHEE, the solids fall to the bottom, you strain the rest and you have Organic clarified butter with hints of nutty, caramel flavors. It has a high smoke point which allows you to do some high heat cooking. It’s made with NO antibiotics, synthetic hormones, toxic chemicals or GMO anything. It’s also lactose-free, casein-free, and shelf-stable product.
Whew! Now that we clarified that for you, 😉 let me tell you what I use it for. For example, when I make poached eggs in the silicone egg dishes, I use it because as I said before no one in our house likes brown butter. I also use it when making pancakes, stir fried vegetables and a ton of other things.
