When to Consider an Urgent Care Facility

When to Consider an Urgent Care Facility!

With today’s hectic schedules, getting in to see your family physician for an illness or minor injury can be next to impossible. Going to the emergency room can be expensive, even with insurance, and can also be quite a long and miserable wait. With the proliferation of urgent care facilities, the gap in health care has been bridged. There are several situations that may arise where urgent care may be better than waiting to see your doctor or presenting at the ER.

Respiratory Infections!

Maybe you’ve been coughing and feeling poorly for several days, or perhaps you have a suspicious, fiery pain in your chest. If you suspect you may have a respiratory infection, waiting it out may not be the right choice. Common ailments such as bacterial pneumonia or bronchitis can last for weeks if left untreated. An urgent care facility will be able to diagnose the issue quickly and get you on the right medications for a swift recovery.

Possible Bone Fractures!

If you fall, slam your hand in a car door or otherwise injure yourself, it can be difficult to tell if you’ve broken a bone. Sometimes the pain is horrendous or you will be able to see the break. However, if the area is just swelling and the pain level isn’t that bad, you may not be sure. An urgent care facility equipped with an x-ray machine can take a few views to check the status of your bones. Ignoring a possible fracture can lead to more damage or poor healing, so you should definitely seek immediate medical care if you suspect a fracture.

Communicable Disease!

Some communicable diseases such as whooping cough, chicken pox and diphtheria are making comebacks due to a rise in the anti-vaccination movement. Even if you were completely vaccinated, it is possible that the vaccine did not cause your body to form antibodies or that you didn’t receive appropriate boosters. If you suspect you have a communicable disease, go to an urgent care facility with your concerns right away. While many of these diseases are annoyances to healthy adults, they can maim or kill infants, the elderly and the immunocompromised with whom you may have contact.

Urgent care helps bridge the gap between routine visits to your family physician and trips to the emergency room. If you’re not feeling well or believe you may have an injury, seek out an urgent care facility for a definitive diagnosis.
