How to reclaim your life from Back Pain!
Back pain, there seems to be more and more people with constant back pain these days than were 30, 20 and even 10 years ago….including me. I know at least a half dozen people that have had back surgery within the past few years and don’t feel any better than they did before and some even feel worse. I was determined to find ways to make my back feel better without surgery. So after searching the internet, I came across #MadBack the book, by Patrick Lee, How to Stop the Hurting and Reclaim your Life, Easily, Now!
It all starts when we are young. I remember my mom always telling me to stand up straight with my shoulders back, after all I am 6 ft. tall and was always the tallest in my classes. I probably used to slouch on purpose because I hated being that tall. But it’s not just standing…it also includes sitting, driving, sleeping, bending and so forth in order to keep your back healthy and happy.
Same goes for high heels. They are no good for your back at all. Sure we want to look nice and sexy when we go out, it’s hard to feel sexy in flats, but now at the age of 54, I opt for the flats. It’s all about the comfort not the fashion anymore. My mother told me growing up that no one looks at your feet….I should have listened to her more.
I have a slipped disc and I’ve tried the shots, but they didn’t help me personally. My girlfriend goes to a Chiropractor and swears by him, but I haven’t tried that yet. In the #MadBack book, it gives you plenty of suggestions on where to start and actions to take. For instance, if your back problem is the result of a car accident or something like that, you need to go to the hospital. But if it’s from poor posture, obesity, a degenerative disease. etc., it will give you ideas on what might be best for your situation.
I was impressed with all the different exercises that the book includes and have been trying several of them for the past couple weeks. I have noticed that the pain isn’t as bad as it has been in the past. I am not one for pain medications, so when the doctor suggested that I take some, I passed on that.
Another thing that I thought was different was he suggests aromatherapy. I have been hearing so much lately about essential oils and how they help so many people with different problems, I would like to give them a try in addition to the exercises.
In the #MadBack book, there is a list of “35 misconceptions about back pain that you must break”. For one, “bed rest is good for recovery from back pain”. I always thought that was true. However, to keep moving is better for your back than laying down. Who knew?
There are so many good recommendations and suggestions in the #MadBack book, that I could be here all day telling you about it. It would be so much easier if you just go and buy the book.
