**Disclosure: I received the 2014 Kia Forte for 2 weeks in order to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own and may differ from yours.
2014 Kia Forte
I had heard nothing but good things about the 2014 Kia Forte, and have test driven a Kia Rio before, so I was excited to be able to cruise around in it for two weeks over the holidays. It has some features in it that I have not seen in any other vehicle that I have ever had or reviewed.
The 2014 Kia Forte comes with the standard Kia warranty of 10 years/100,000 miles.
The Kia Forte is a mid size car with plenty of leg room, head room and trunk space. It measures 179.5 in length and 70.1 in. wide. Choose from the LX with a 1.8 L motor with 25 City/37 HWY or the EX with a 2.0 L motor with 24 City/36 HWY mpg.
With plenty of options to customize one just for you, below are some of my favorite options.
Kia’s next-gen UVO System
Kia’s next-gen UVO system leverages your Bluetooth-connected smartphone to automatically call 911 in the event of an airbag deployment, and lets you send a navigation destination from your computer to the car. This is a really great option because you just never know what might happen.
Did you ever drive a car and think to yourself…this steering wheel has a lot of play in it? Well, on the 2014 Kia Forte, you can change the feel of the wheel. At first, I didn’t think that you would feel that much of a difference. But after I tried it again, I thought wow, that is an awesome option.
As part of its new electric power steering system, the 2014 Kia Forte EX includes a FlexSteer feature that lets the driver select between Comfort, Normal and Sport steering modes. Comfort mode feels the least artificial, making small corrections easier and mitigating some of the compromise of efficiency-enhancing electric steering.
Heated Rear Seats
Now, this might not sound like a big deal to you, but if you have ever gotten in the back seat of a car when it was cold out, then you know what I’m talking about. The coldness of the seats goes through me. Brrrr! This is the first car I have ever seen with this option.
We don’t usually get this cold in Florida, but the past couples years, it has been a little chilly. So besides the heated and cooled seats in the front, they now have the heated in the back seat.
With the price of gas these days, everyone is looking for a fuel efficient vehicle. The 2014 Kia Forte get approximately 25 City and 36 HWY. I was averaging 31.5 and that was all city driving.
Steering Wheel Controls
I love it when everything is at your fingertips when you are driving. Radio controls, Cruise controls, phone controls and driver information center.
It’s so much easier when all you have to do is grab the door handle and open the door. No key, no searching in your purse, no searching for the spot where you insert the key in the ignition. The keyless entry does just that. Step on the brake and press the button to start the car. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
The trunk has plenty of room to hold just about everything you can think of, but even more when you fold the back seats down.
Perimeter Approach Lighting
When you approach the vehicle the lights mounted under the mirrors, will illuminate the ground beneath the front doors as you get closer. It gives you that extra added measure of security (available on the EX edition).
