Thorne Manor and Other Bizarre Tails by Diane Wing Book #Review

I’m sure that you already know that I am not a reader.  I took on this book review because we were going on a long car trip and I figured it would keep me busy.  Also because I love to hear ghost stories.

Thorne Manor and Other Bizarre Tails is just that.  It has one long story and seven other short stories.  I’m not sure if I ever mentioned it, but my husband doesn’t believe in ghosts. You can read about it here.   That is until one night. They say ghosts come to animals, children and those that don’t believe.  Just like Heather in Thorne Manor.  Heather was warned by her friend and realtor Joyce about the gothic mansion.

She could feel the dense air in the house but it still didn’t stop her from buying it.  Dr. Thorne was a psychiatrist and his wife was a mental patient.  One night the wife snapped, shot her husband, slit her own throat.  The 2 children were both found dead also.  Heather had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and the last person she wanted to borrow money from was her ex.

She really had no other choice because she really, really, really wanted the house.  She was going to rent out the rooms upstairs to a tea leaf reader, a tarot card reader and a psychic and a trance medium.

They could all feel the presence around them.  It was definitely not the ending I expected, but I really enjoyed the book. I actually finished it all in one day!  And to think, I hate reading.  That should tell you something about how good the book is.

The rest of the stories are also spirits and such.  The one that really got to me was the one about the dog,  By Invitation Only!  Having to put your pet down is the most heart wrenching thing you have to do.  And we had to do it to two of our dogs.  The story almost made me feel like it was me.

When we put our German Shephard down, she was only six years old, but she had really bad seizures and they couldn’t be controlled anymore.  The day we took her to the vet to be put down, I couldn’t stop crying.  Later at home, I was walking our other dogs and it was a beautiful blue sky.  I looked up and asked “Adrian (that was her name), did we do the right thing?”  And there in the sky, written across it said “God”.  I looked around for a skywriting plane or something, but there was nothing!

I highly recommend this book if you like ghost stories.  It is an amazing book.  My rating for Thorne Manor is 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

It is available through Amazon to purchase in paperback or Kindle edition.
